Turkmen Diplomat Highlights Turkmenistan’s Commitment to Global Peace in Kanal Avrupa TV Channel Interview
During her recent appearance on Kanal Avrupa’s “Actualités Brussels” program, diplomat Maral Rahymova noted Turkmenistan’s ongoing dedication to fostering global peace, particularly through the International Year of Peace and Trust. This major initiative, championed by Turkmenistan and unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, serves as a powerful call for international cooperation, stability, and dialogue in a world facing numerous complex challenges.
Maral Rahymova : « As we approach 2025, Turkmenistan will celebrate two significant milestones: the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. These milestones are intertwined, as Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality has long complemented and reinforced the UN’s mission of promoting global peace and security ».
Maral Rahymova emphasized in her speech that since being recognized as a neutral state by the UN in 1995, Turkmenistan has maintained a foreign policy based on respect, non-interference, and diplomatic engagement. Its neutrality is not a passive stance; rather, it is a proactive approach that facilitates peace negotiations, regional stability, and economic cooperation. This has allowed Turkmenistan to become a trusted partner in international mediation and conflict resolution.
The International Year of Peace and Trust reflects Turkmenistan’s belief that sustainable peace is built on trust between nations. Maral Rahymova noted that this initiative is not merely symbolic but provides a concrete framework for international dialogue and collective action. It aims to foster a global culture where diplomacy prevails over discord and trust overcomes hostility.
In a recent conversation between Turkmenistan’s National Leader, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to global peace. During her speech, Maral Rahymova highlighted that Turkmenistan outlined its Comprehensive Concept of Activity and Priorities for the International Year of Peace and Trust, underlining its dedication to security, sustainable development, and humanitarian progress.
One of the key components of this initiative is the development of a Global Security Strategy, which seeks to address contemporary threats across political, economic, environmental, and technological domains. Maral Rahymova emphasized that it emphasizes preventive diplomacy, an approach already successfully employed by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, based in Ashgabat. Turkmenistan advocates for conflict prevention rather than reactionary measures, in alignment with the UN’s vision of sustainable peace.
Another crucial aspect of this initiative is the promotion of neutrality as a peacebuilding tool. Maral Rahymova mentioned that Turkmenistan has proposed granting neutral states priority partner status in the UN’s peacebuilding efforts, which would include the establishment of two peacekeeping centers within Turkmenistan to facilitate dialogue and prevent conflicts.
In conclusion, Maral Rahymova stated in her address that Turkmenistan remains deeply committed to its role as a mediator in international relations and is determined to lead efforts toward a more peaceful and secure world. The International Year of Peace and Trust provides not only an opportunity to reflect on past achievements but also a call to action for the global community to unite in pursuit of lasting peace.
